ABOUT
A Bit of Background
Hello! My name is Emily Gimbel, and welcome to my website. I am a researcher, and a writer of both creative and academic works. I grew up in Chicago and moved to Los Angeles to attend Chapman University and pursue a career in television and media. I also spent a semester in London honing my research skills, and studying story structure, and Shakespeare.

I watch everything, past and present, on TV, and have a particular fondness for urban fantasy, and mafia stories. Much of the focus of my academic works has been the analysis of classic series such as The Sopranos and Mad Men and discussion of how such shows intertwine gender roles and mental illness. Additionally, I often write about how newer series, like Crazy Ex-Girlfriend or The Good Place, utilize feminism and equity in order to portray mental illness in a more positive light.

I love theatre, books, film, and any medium that can be used to tell a riveting story. I'm also an intense foodie, and an avid traveler and outdoorswoman. Feel free to message me about any of my works, or even just to discuss the fall TV season!
