MY PROJECTS

Below is a sampling of my analysis and research projects. I often focus on the manner in which real life and popular culture simultaneously reflect and grow from each other, with research grounded in feminism and gender studies, and neurodiversity and mental illness.

CHOKE ON MY COCKSUREDNESS

An Analysis of Gendered Constructs in Modern Television

Twenty pages of examination of the television era, 'The Age of Difficult Men,' and the glorification of sociopathic traits in male protagonists. I wrote my own critical theory and argued that the key storytelling traits of the era have more recently given birth to female and POC centric shows, such as Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. This essay served as my senior thesis and capstone for my English degree.

I GET IT

An Analysis Of How Television Creates Meaning

An analysis of the character journeys of Tony Soprano, Don Draper, Walter White, and John Locke. I argue that Tony's inability to grow ultimately both reflects and creates The Sopranos' lack of meaning and influenced the character journeys of the men that followed him onto the small screen.

INSIDE THE OUTSIDE

A Short Analysis About Race In Harry Potter

A short paper about the casting of Noma Dumezwni as Hermione in Cursed Child, and the lack of true diversity in popular culture. Presented at the 2018 Sigma Tau Delta Far Western Conference.

THE GENIUS PROJECT

A Gallery and Analysis

I was tasked to research the word 'genius' and track how it has been used historically and culturally. I created a blog and gathered a variety of artifacts in order to analyze how the word has been utilized, and contrasted it against other concepts, such as the clinical definition of the word versus how it is perceived in popular culture, or the idea of 'genius' being related to insanity.
